Assembly Instructions

Parts

  • 2x Linear Guideway (HIWIN MGN 329mm)
  • 3x Linear Guideway Block/Carriage (HIWIN MGN)
  • 4x Mounting Bracket (3D printed)
  • 18x M3x10 Screw (Allen Key)
  • 12x M3 Square Nut (5.5x5.5x1.8)

Instructions

  1. Remove the filament and move the printhead upwards (press and hold the selection button for 3s). Step 1

  2. Turn off the printer and unplug it. Step 2

  3. Place the printer on the side with the power supply (right side from the front). Step 3

  4. Unmount the belt holder from the Y-carriage with the 2 screws. Step 4

  5. Place the printer in normal position and remove the 9 screws from the heatbed. Step 5

  6. Carefully lift the heatbed and place it behind the printer. Then remove the 9 spacers from the platform. Step 6

  7. Unscrew the 6 screws from the bearings and lift the platform and place it next to the printer. Put the top side up to mount the platform in the correct direction later. Step 7

  8. Remove the 4 screws from the rods on the front side. Step 8

  9. Remove the 4 screws from the rods on the back side. Step 9

  10. Remove the rods. Step 10

  11. Screw one bracket to each linear guideway end with a screw and square nut by hand (do not tighten). Step 11

  12. Insert 2 square nuts in all 4 brackets. If the plugging in is difficult, use a pair of pliers to hold the nuts. If the nuts fall out, glue a tape over the slots. Step 12

  13. Put 1 guideway block (carriage) on a guideway (profile rail). Then mount the second bracket on the guideway and tight it by hand. Step 13

  14. Insert 2 guideway blocks onto the other guideway and then mount the second bracket on the guideway and tight it by hand. Step 14

  15. Put the guideways with brackets on the printer. Step 15

  16. Fasten the guideways on the front side with 2 screws each and tighten loosely. Step 16

  17. Fasten the guideways on the back side with 2 screws each and tighten loosely. The guideways and blocks are oiled, but for continuous operation the blocks need grease. Step 17

  18. Place in the platform and align it according to the photos and fasten it hand-tight. The longer side of the guideway block is on the right side (1 guideway block) to the front and on the left side (2 guideway block) to the rear. Step 18 Step 18 Step 18

  19. Move the platform back and forth a few times, while applying some pressure from above (by hand).

  20. Slide the platform forward and tighten the guideways with the 4 screws on the front. Step 20

  21. Slide the platform backward and tighten the guideways with the 4 screws on the back. Step 21

  22. Tighten the front 2 screws in the guideways. Step 22

  23. Tighten the rear 2 screws in the guideways. Step 23

  24. Tighten the 6 screws of the guideway blocks and then check that the platform is easy to move. If not then loose the screws a little of the guideway blocks and brackets and go back to step 19. Step 24

  25. Place the 9 spacers. Step 25

  26. Carefully place the heatbed and put all screws (countersunk) in the holes. Only then start with the exact alignment and screwing from one side. Step 26

  27. Place the printer on the side with the power supply (right side from the front). Step 27

  28. Screw on the belt holder with the 2 screws again. Step 28

  29. Place the printer in normal position and turn it on. Step 29

  30. In the menu Calibration select the item Wizard. Step 30

  31. Complete the self-test and calibration. Step 31

  32. Test of the fans.

  33. Test of the axes (with steel sheet). If the length check fails for the Y axis then place an about 3-6mm object on the front end of the rail with 2 carriages during the measurement.

  34. Test of the heaters. Step 34

  35. Search of the calibration points. Place a paper sheet on the heatbed (without steel sheet). If there are issues on finding the calibration points, then cut off the top stop on the rear bracket of the rail with 2 carriages. Step 35

  36. Place steel sheet on heatbed Step 36

  37. Test of the printhead height with steel sheet. Step 37

  38. Load filament and adjust height (First layer calibration). Step 38

  39. The upgrade is finished.

Note: Calibrate Z in the menu Calibration is not working, because the bed is 3mm higher with the linear rails. But you can use Calibrate XYZ and the Mesh Bed Leveling is also working without problems.
